Despite the weather warnings, play commenced at 07:30 today with calm and reasonably good conditions.
First off the tee were Theodosis Athanasopoulos from Greece, Sarah Westwood from Scotland and Ertugrul Gozegu from Turkey.
Weather reports suggested that Storm Ali might threaten today’s play and they weren’t wrong. By lunchtime the heavens had opened and a 10 minute torrential downpour suspended play for over 30 minutes due to surface water collecting on the greens.
After the rain had subsided, play resumed at 13:00 which allowed Castle Stuart’s well kept greens to drain and all Groups to finish the front 9 holes.
Yesterday’s second place Heejong Lim from Korea joined Joseph Byrne from Ireland in the top spot and locals Callum Scott and Conor Wilson crept up into 3rd and 4th place, at the end of the front 9.
By 13:30 it was all change again with the weather and arrival of gusts of 50+ mph winds. The changing weather certainly laid out a challenge for our Young Champions today, opening up the leaderboard.
At the end of Day 2 play, Barclay Brown from England leads by 1 stoke with Connor Wilson from Scotland, Heejong Lim from Korea and yesterday’s leader Joseph Byrne from Ireland all in 2nd place.
Tomorrow promises to be a tense and exciting final round to decide The Duke of York’s Young Champions Trophy winner for 2018.
